Concerns From Committees Own Studies

Protected bike lanes: • Concerned about impact of traffic • Lack of current cyclists in the Center • Flex posts “don’t work” – constant maintenance • What happens outside project limits?

Road diets / curb extensions: • “Traffic is already bad – this will make it worse”

All roadways within the Center will be reduced to one lane in each direction except the northbound Chestnut Street approach, which will remain as it exists • Exclusive pedestrian phasing will remain in effect • On each approach, any portion of the traffic that is over capacity will be diverted to surrounding roadways • An approach is “over capacity” when, in general, the entire queue cannot get through the intersection during one signal cycle • Diversion assumptions: • Longer trips will divert to regional highways • Shorter trips may be diverted onto local streets (guess the consultants don’t use WAZE)

It appears the plan is intended to divert traffic down either Pickering or Warren to May and everything else down High Rock, South Street or Greendale.

Will this traffic diversion impact the safety of our neighborhoods, Green Field and those at St Joseph’s?  OF COURSE IT WILL

Who will be negatively affected:

Mobil Service, Dog House, WOW, Comellas, Stretch Med, Needham Florist, Berkshire Hathaway, Home Trends, Dedham Bank, Needham Bank, Candle Bar, Michelson Shoes, Sculpture, Popular Nails, Salon Victoria, Wayland Kitchen and Baths, Sherwin Williams,  Just Be, Baan Thai Spa, Gyro & Hebab, Haven Home Design, Learning Express, The James, Fann The Tailor, Cleveland Travel, Sweet Boba, Hearthstone Home, Needham Martial Arts, Gari, Proud Mary, Plant Design, 2Mix, Union Pharmacy, Needham Center Wines, Barre 3, Masala Art, CVS, Farmhouse, Hearth Pizza, Common Room, Little Spoon, Abbotts, Doris Couture, Needham Music & Dance, Lotus Healing, The Running Store, Royal Barber, UPS store, Lovely Nails, Sweet Basil, Needham Nutrition, Shaolin Studio, Darling Hair, Closet Exchange, Club Champion, New Leaf, Sew Easy, Needham House of Pizza – and 2 new Restaurants.
